:: 'Seam' Porcelain Dishes designed by Anne Black ::
I can't remember where I first saw Anne Black's work, but I definitely remember being completely enamored by it. Her designs are very simple and clean with sweet little details. If you like her 'Seam' collection, check out 'Tilt' also.

:: Button Tufted Chaise Settee at Target ::
This chaise doesn't look like it's the most inviting place to sit, but it is quite adorable. Who knew you could find this kind of stuff at Target of all places???

:: Square Grillwork Necklace by Amy Bengston ::
Amy Bengston makes me want to wear necklaces... I love that her jewelry is very natural. The etched wood with mother of peal accents is really lovely.

Did You Miss Me?

Thanks to technology and the ability to schedule my blog posts, you probably didn't notice that I was gone all of last week. I headed off to Border Raiders from the 21st through the 27th and then made a whirlwind trip to Chicago for a friend's wedding on the 28th & 29th. My little vacation was the furthest thing from relaxing but more fun than I've had in ages.

I didn't get any photos of the wedding because I forgot my camera, but my main role on the bike tour is to serve as the photographer. Below are the first 10 photographs that stood out the most; naturally they're of the flowers and not so much of the cyclists.

I should add that the first photo is of my friend Eric who helps out as one of the mechanics on the ride. Last year Eric rode the entire tour in street clothes on a Townie, which basically makes him a bad-ass. As if that wasn't a challenge enough, he decided to ride this year on bike that allowed him to switch between a single speed (no shifting gears) and a fixed gear (a single speed but no ability to coast) -- and that makes him a complete animal (and a little insane).

tuesday.typeface : : fette fraktur

I've always been a huge fan of blackletter typefaces and was reminded of one of my favorites this morning when I saw it used in a design by my friend Ralston. I haven't come across a project that calls for using a typeface like this, so I thought it would be nice to mess around with it and highlight it for this week's tuesday.typeface. Here's a little history on Fette Fraktur:

"This font is one of the most used broken letter fonts today. Fette Fraktur is used to invoke a nostalgic or rustic feeling and found often on restaurants with ‘hearty homemade food’ or breweries who use the ‘good old recipes’ of the founder. The font was designed in the 19th century and from the beginning intended as an advertisement typeface. The lower case letters have a gothic character with only the ornamental flourishes making them broken letters, while the capital letters are more characteristic of broken letter typefaces. One could say Fette Fraktur is a true mix of styles, not unusual for typefaces created at the turn of the 19th century."

thursday.things{i want}

:: Gearbag by S.Stein Design ::
SWEET-LORD-I-LOVE-THIS-BAG. In fact, I freakin' love every single bag over at S.Stein Design. The gearbag is made from industrial weight cotton canvas and paired with tool-belt-like suede and steel hardware, making them über durable. I love the look of these babies and all those pockets for storganizing my goodies gives me goosebumps. The bags are a wee bit pricey, but look like they're well worth it.

:: Men's Fitted Linen Shirt at Gap ::
I'm a huge fan of linen, and I think it's super sexy when women sport menswear, so is it any surprise that I want this shirt? I'd prefer it in white, which I think I saw in store, but can't seem to locate on the website. I highly advise all the lovely ladies to race out, grab one of these shirts, throw on a pair boy-short undies and lounge around the house. Sexy meets casual -- love it.

:: Piper by Miz Mooz via Nordstrom ::
Hello? Are these the world's cutest shoes or what? If you answered "no" to that question, please exit the blog... I tried these on last weekend and O-M-G are they deliciously comfy. Seriously. I'd been walking through the mall in flips for like six hours, tried these kids on and fell in love -- and I rarely wear anything with a heel. Not only are they comfy and cute, they're also really good on slippery surfaces, and because the heel is lower and wider, they're really easy to walk around in. One little note: if you order these online, get them a half size smaller than you normally wear. I'm kind of a 7.5/8 shoe person, and thought the size 7 was the best fit for me.

So, now feels like a good time to remind everyone that there are exactly 172 days until my birthday -- you know, just in case.

wednesday.website : : one word. so little time.

Do you ever get writer's block or feel strapped for inspiration? If so, I highly suggest checking out OneWord.com. This is a great little site that serves as a writing exercise but can also be inspiration for design, photography and just about anything else in the creative realm.

Using the site is simple: after you click the "go" you have 60 seconds to write about the word you're given -- and you can write whatever you want about that word. The site encourages you write about whatever seeing the word you're given inspires.

In terms of photography, you could take a photograph based on the word you're given. Or perhaps design something around the word you're given. No matter what you choose to do, this can be a really nice, thought provoking exercise.

tuesday.typeface : : archer

I've had a long time love for the Archer family of type. I mean, if it's good enough for Martha, it's good enough for me! And being a bit of a wordy-person, I think the description of the face is just as lovely as the face itself:

"When Martha Stewart Living asked us to develop a new typeface for the magazine, it seemed that a slab serif could answer much of the brief. A slab could be personable, straightforward, and credible, though it would take special effort to also make it pretty, hard-working, and frank. Archer would have to answer some formidable typographic demands, since Living is an almanac of lists, recipes, charts, diagrams, tables, calendars, and glossaries. To make the typeface frank — direct, but not brusque — we introduced subtle cues from the world of typewriter faces, which combine the ordinariness of Antiques with the modern practicality of Geometrics. We restored the vanished ‘ball terminals’ to the lowercase, and uncharacteristically applied these gestures to the capitals as well, in order to yield a font that’s friendly without being silly, and attractive without being flashy. The result is a typeface that’s well-mannered, easy to work with, and inviting to read."
