I may have just discovered the most helpful designerly website ever: VectorMagic.com. If you've ever wanted to turn anything into vector art -- even photographs -- this is the site for you. All you need to do is upload your original file, walk through the ridiculously simple steps, press click and wah-lah! You can see my little test run above. The middle picture shows my original image and one of the questions I had to answer about it and the bottom picture shows the result. The outcome may not always be spot on (my vector penguin became a Cyclops!), but you can go back and tweak as needed -- the biggest relief is that this software takes care of 90% of the work for you.

You can purchase a monthly membership with unlimited use for $7.95, you can buy tokens for individual use for as little as $15 and you can even buy the software for $295. No matter what your budget, VectorMagic.com is definitely worth checking out.
