I've been on the Border Raiders Bicycle Tour and have basically been out of touch with reality for about a month due to planning for, and being on the ride. Now that I'm back, I just wanted to take a quick minute to talk about something that happened this year.
Despite a few less than desirable conditions, we experienced a situation that no one wants to be in; this year a cyclist was killed in a head-on collision with an automobile. While the man who was killed was not riding on the actual Border Raiders route at the time of the accident, he was an experienced cyclist, riding on roads that he had been on many times before. I realize that accidents can happen at any time, but I want to make a point to motorists and cyclists alike to please, please be aware of who you share the road with.
I only bring this up because of all of the deaths I've read about in the past week -- both looming and unexpected. And with that being said, please take care of yourselves, be safe, and hug your loved ones.

That is so sad -- stories like this are always hard to hear, both as a cyclist and a driver. My thoughts are with you! And, thanks for the gentle reminder.
Well said, my dear child.
Love,
Mommy
